ASAP Recovery just turned 10 years old!!! You can watch our Story above or read more about it below!

OUR  STORY

The story of how ASAP Recovery came to be, actually started in a jail cell in June of 2007. After a decade and a half of drinking and drug abuse, I found myself looking at a mandatory five-year prison sentence for a probation violation, due to racking up some new charges. In that moment, I realized two things. One, they have me dead to rights. Two, my life was officially over. So it was here that I hit my knees and cried out to Jesus with all my heart. And let me tell you, He did not disappoint.

Over the next few months, as I sat in jail waiting for the chips to
fall wherever they may, I began to develop an authentic, growing, relationship with Jesus by devouring His Word, and seeking His face. Right at the thirty-day marker I had a near-death experience, and to my surprise, it was here that I began to undeniably hear God’s voice, telling me that He loved me, forgave me, and had a plan for my life. Shortly thereafter, I was expedited to Florida, where my probation stemmed from in order to face charges. Well, low and behold, the Lord fought for me in court that day and instead of going to prison, I was released to Teen Challenge of Southwest Florida for the next year…which I somehow managed to turn into fifteen months.

After graduating in January of 2009, I went home to rebuild my life. Over the next few years I began to notice that a lot of my brothers who I had went through the program with were now returning to their old lifestyles and thereby to jail, treatment, or the morgue. And so I sought the Lord, asking why they were falling and I was still standing. You see, most of these brothers were far more righteous than I was while in the program. This is when the Lord first began to show me the four successful elements of prisons and programs, which would later become the Four Steps of ASAP Recovery:

Absolute Surrender
Structure
Accountability
Purpose.

In January or February 2012, I was driving down the road and the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “Would you build Me a church?” My teary-eyed reply was, “Where Lord?” His answer was instant: “Covington” (which is in Kentucky, in case Y’all not from around here). He then proceeded to show me a vision, or an image, of a group of men in recovery, arm in arm like a wall around that church and the city. It was to be a church and program for those in recovery, where addiction recovery met the Word of God. In that moment, Covington Kentucky became my very own personal promised land.

Now, to say that this conversation has been the driving force behind everything I’ve done for the last 14 (going on 15) years would be the understatement of a lifetime. From that day to this day, and every day in between, I’ve been preparing to answer that call. I've read hundreds of books, watched thousands of sermons, enrolled in Bible College, and sought out Godly mentors in numerous fields so they could take me under their wing and teach me all the things I would need to know. I’ve attended retreats, seminars, workshops, and even started a homeless church in the park, all for the sake of getting ready for this day. I visited or volunteered at behavior centers, jails, urban missions, and residential programs in order to get a peek behind the veil of these ministries, so that I would be ready for the day when I would build my own.

Most importantly, I’ve spent days, months, years, and now almost two decades seeking the face of the Lord and His heart for the day when He would say, “Arise and build!” In October of 2025, that call finally came in and when it did, Lisa and I answered it! However, I am getting ahead of myself.
Jumping back to March of 2012 the Lord brought me the love of my life, and my very own Proverbs 31 woman; Lisa. We were married in June of 2013 and started working on this dream as one. Then in 2015, she and I officially started ASAP Recovery in response to God’s invitation to build Him a church as well as the desperate need of the recovery community for a program that actually works.

Over the next ten years we have torn down, rebuilt, and started this ministry over from scratch at least five times; each time coming back stronger, better, and more in tune with what God

wanted it to be. Now although this seems like a lot of setbacks or even wasted time, nothing could be further from the truth, friend.
You see, throughout this entire time of rebuilding and refining (in particular from April 2021- October 2025), my wife and I resigned our paying jobs (in faith and obedience) to become stateside missionaries to the lost, addicted, incarcerated, homeless, and broken. Also during this time, we managed to become an official 501(c)3 non-profit church.

We even formulated our official Biblical doctrine by publishing four ASAP Recovery books (and a workbook). So as you can see for yourself, God didn’t waste any of this building and rebuilding (Romans 8:28)!

In hindsight, from the time that the call first came in to build Him a church for the recovery community, we
have walked by faith and not by sight when it comes to trusting God for our direction and provision for all our needs (Philippians 4:19). I share this to say that over the course of the last fifteen years we didn’t know how God was going to provide for this endeavor and lead us into our promised land of Covington, Kentucky; we just knew He would. And then in 2025 He did!
My father passed away on February 7th, 2025, leaving us an inheritance. Well, lo and behold, in the summer of that same year a building came up for sale on Madison Ave right in the heart of the recovery district. In fact, it was 1 of 5 methadone clinics that I had been stretching forth holy hands and praying against for the last two years. The only problem with this building was that they wanted $500,000 for the building. And let me tell you, I know buildings, and this was no half a million-dollar building.
Nevertheless, after much prayer and seeking God’s will (instead of our own), the Lord invited us to launch out into the deep by applying for a half a million-dollar loan against our inheritance in order to get the building. So Lisa and I obeyed (still unemployed, mind you) and were approved and, just like that, our dream left the realm of faith and entered into the realm of reality! Amen somebody!

During this last year we have opened our ministry in increments. You see, this building needed a lot of work in order to make it everything that we felt the Lord wanted it to be. And so, we

started meeting in a larger classroom while we worked on the building each week. Eventually, we were able to move our weekly service into what would become our future sanctuary, while it was still under construction. What we would do is clean and set up the sanctuary each week on Friday nights for church then tear it all down afterward for the upcoming construction week. This was a very tiresome but special time in our story.

Also, during this last year of tear down and setup, in May of 2026 the Kentucky Jail Ministries moved in with us and are now reaching more people than ever as they are transitioning out of jail.
This all leads us to here and now. As you can see here in the pictures, all the construction is just about done, and right at the year marker, too! Which is good because there are far more important things for us to be doing than building remodeling. What I mean by that is, in January 2026 the Lord gave us a prophetic word for the coming year. He said very clearly to us that in the same way that the Israelites had to fight their way into their promised land, likewise we would now have to fight for our place, too! Specifically, He said to us, “2026 is the year we fight!”
Picture
He then began to show us all the people, places, and things that we would have to fight in order to establish ourselves in our promised land. Kind of like the Israelites had to do when they came into their promised land!
In closing, there is so much more to tell, but time will not allow. But I will say this, there is so much going on in our church and our community because of it. Much like Nehemiah’s people had a trowel in one hand and a sword in the other, we have had to build and fight at the same time this year. But our God has been with us every step of the way.

The Lord has been so faithful in His promise. In fact, He made it possible for us to be financially self-sustaining on our interest loan payments and monthly bills within the first month of entering our promised land. Praise His faithfulness and Holy name!

We are currently and faithfully awaiting His incredible and undeniable provision to pay back this loan of $500,000 that He promised us when He invited us to launch out into the deep. Just to clarify, our denomination is not on the hook for this loan, nor is our ASAP Recovery Ministry; our inheritance is. And yet, we have no question that God will provide that which was promised in His time (Philippians 4:19). Make no mistake, there is one hero in this story and it’s not Lisa or myself; to God alone will be the glory!
And so while we wait, the lost are being saved, the chains of addiction are falling off, homeless people are getting off the street, prayers are being answered, and His presence is always manifest in our Holy House. We also plan to launch our ASAP Recovery Day Program before the end of the year. We do hope you will join us.

Pressing On!
Pastor Chuck Chapman
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14
